How it works?
VRF systems utilize a central refrigerant piping circuit connecting exterior mounted condensers or heat pumps with multiple interior fan coil units. The exterior equipment is used to move refrigerant throughout the building to areas that are being heated or cooled and fan coil units provide air circulation in any particular zone. Typical zones are single or multiple room spaces that under 200-500 square feet with independent temperature control. This style of system can also provide simultaneous heating and cooling if some areas of a building need heat when others need cooling, which is extremely beneficial in commercial buildings that have computer rooms requiring cooling all year long.
